As soon as I stepped off the plane, I was greeted by the sweet, tropical scent of Guyana — a mix of warm air, ripened fruit, and ocean breeze. I was welcomed dearly as I walked down from the aircraft, the excitement buzzing in my chest. Ahead was a glass walkway that connected to the airport, its windows framing a view that instantly stole my breath.
The sun was settling down behind the palm trees, casting long golden shadows over the ground. The sky glowed a warm shade of orange, a colour that reminded me it was summer — the kind of summer where you could wander through lively markets, tasting the best foods, before heading toward the bustling party on the seawall.
